What is the Cadets Scheme?
Our cadet scheme recruits 13-17 year olds from across the West Midlands. We encourage young people from all walks of life to join us.
As part of a national curriculum, cadets:
- learn about policing, including visits to departments
- learn new skills and to help others
- volunteer in the community and help their own personal
development
- take part in events such as Pride or Remembrance Day
- What is a cadet leader?
- Cadet leaders are volunteers who help run our cadet units. They come
from different backgrounds, and you do not have to work for us to apply
to be one. All we ask is that you’re over 18, and can commit to the role for
at least a year.
- After vetting and a disclosure and barring (DBS) check, we’ll support you
and give you training about how to be a cadet leader.
- A cadet leader should:
- want to inspire others and make a difference to young people
- have good personal skills and be able to motivate
- confidence to deliver sessions
- be able to lead, team build and maintain discipline
- The cadet units normally meet once a week in the early evening school
term time.
