Brownhills PE

As always, our students in PE have had a fantastic start to the year! We have already had lots of amazing achievements and opportunities which our pupils have taken part in.

Marley Roberts Selection for West Midlands County football team:

Marley first went for trials in September 2021 for the county team representing the school. He eased through the stages and made it onto the team. Whilst representing the County, they were so impressed he was automatically put through for his 2nd and 3rd season. Marley always turns up looking very smart in his school uniform representing the academy. Below are pictures of Marley representing the West Midlands County team:

Marley was released from Wolverhampton Wanderers 5years ago and therefore went to trials for Walsall FC. Within 3 weeks they offered Marley a two-year contract with the club. Marley has progressed and worked extremely hard since joining the academy. In particular, his determination and dedication to training has got Marley where he is today. He has now been with Walsall FC for 5 years. Recently, Marley made his debut appearance for the U21 team and although being the youngest on the pitch, he still managed to make a great impression on the coaching staff.

During the 6 weeks holiday, Marley attended the academy from 9-4 every day working extremely hard on his dream of becoming a professional footballer. Marley is currently playing for the U18/19s where he fits in and plays well. Marley has recently been offered a scholarship at the academy where he will be working towards playing for the 1st team whilst studying BTEC level 3 in Physical Education and sport.

A huge well done to Marley and we can’t wait to see what the future brings for you!

British Cycling Talent Identification

On Tuesday 30th January, our year 9 and 10 girls completed a British Cycling Talent Identification workshop where they cycled as hard as possible in 6 seconds. The purpose of the session was to identify any of our students who have the ability to progress onto the next stages of talent identification. All of the girls worked extremely hard and tried their upmost best to impress talent ID scout Chris Heaton.

Huge well done to all students but especially to the top 5 students who have been identified for the next stage: Lola Webster, Sophie Tonks, Paige Borthwick and Princess Jeffery.

Huge thank you to Chris Heaton from the British Cycling team for coming in to lead a great workshop!

Glow Football

On Wednesday 31st January, our year 9 and 10 girls were invited to Walsall College for a glow football event. This event was a football tournament with a twist! The girls were competing under UV lighting with a glow in the dark ball, vests, head and wrist band and face paints. This was a completely new version of football and something the girls were extremely excited for! The girls had a brilliant day and can’t wait for the next time they go!

Aston Villa Post-16

Our year 10 students had the opportunity to attend a post-16 workshop discussing the possibilities of them joining the Aston Villa Foundation to complete the next steps in their career. The students had lots of questions to ask the staff and are already looking forward to applying next year. This was a great way to open up other pathways for their A-levels and broaden their horizons for the future!
